Myriophyllum Tuberculatum Propogation

It is Red Millfoil, or Myriophyllum tuberculatum

It is a Red Foxtail plant.

PetSMART sells it as "Frill."

How can I get this plant to propogate? It has a manner of bushing at its ends in the last couple months. I've noticed the closer it is to light, the more it does this, and it does it by forking.

I'd like to get it nice and bushy, because it is already such a full and fluffy looking plant. Does anyone have experience with this plant?

I'm a little confused as to what exactly your question is. Are you looking for one big busy myriophyllum plant, or are you looking to just grow multiple new plants from the one you have to create a "bushy" look?

The main propagation method for Myrophyllum sp. is just simple fragmentation, that's one of the reasons why they become such troublesome invasive plants in our lakes and rivers. If you just cut a piece off and replant it it should grow with no problem.

I am interested in single strands becoming very bushy, and the best method to propogate it.

Well the best way to propagate it is to just re-plant cuttings. I'm not sure how you would be able to control how bushy it gets though, the forking generally happens as the plant grows taller.

For some plants you can create a bushier look by cutting it over the forked growth and prune the side shoots to where you want them. This will force the plant to put energy into the side shoots rather than growing upwards. To propogate, just cut off the side shoots and stick them in the substrate.
