My plants don't seem so happy

I have decided to go for live plants for my tank, and I am pleased with my decision. But some of the plants don't seems so good. I have recieved some plant fertiliser today and have put 4 pumps into my tank, so I hope it is going to improve these plants. I will post piccies below, if you can tell me the problem that'd be great. Oh, BTW, I only have 2 platies in there and they haven't been eating it.

What type of light are you using, and for how long? What temperature do you keep your water at? What are your water parameters? Are you adding any chemicals to the water besides fertilizer? What type of fertilizer did you get?

Yes, we need some more info. I'm all but certain I know the problem from the photos, but with the information iamgray asked for we can respond. Also, I am moving this thread to the Aquarium Plants section.

Be specific on the light, what type, watts, Kelvin rating; and what size tank.

Hi there, sorry it took me time to get back to you, anyway, as requested, water parameters.

pH: 7.5
Nitrate: 0
Nitrite: 0
GH: 120ppm
KH: 80ppm

Water temp: 27*C

Lighting: From 7:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Other Chemicals: Stress Coat, Stress Zyme, Water Dechlorinator.

I am using a Fluval Edge tank (6gal) and the lighting has been replaced with 6700k 12 LED lamps @ 150lumens.

Fertiliser: Flora Grow Liquid - Liquid Plant Fertiliser - For Coldwater and Tropical.



Any more info needed just ask!

i love that tank designn! we still need a bit more information... such as how many watts are the bulbs? those plants look like corskcrew val. how long has the tank been up? is it cycled? are those plants new? new plants tend to "die back" slighly for a month or so when introduced under new conditions. what do you mean by "pumps?"

Thanks for the kind words! I don't know the wattage of the light, but they are more than adequate to promote plant growth. I only got the plants a few days ago and the tank has been cycled, but up for 2 weeks, so that is probably the reason as you said they 'die back'. Thanks for your help, I will continue to add fertiliser and keep you updated!

Your water's gonna get harder and harder over time. I warned you about that big calcerous rock. :P

Stick to plants that like harder water and you should be fine.


My plants always look like that for a few weeks when they are still adjusting to my tanks.
