jungle val trimming?

I received an order today and my jungle vals are brown and rotting. I got them planted but do I need to cut down the leaves, some of them are a little to long for my liking or do I need to trim them off at the base? Thanks.

When I trim mine I just cut the blades to the length I want them to be. I don't know if this is the correct way of doing it but it has never bother mine.

Also wanted to note that the leaves that are rotten ( transparent?) Should be cut down to whet there are heathy look again or if it is the whole blade should remove it altogether at the base.

I don't even use clippers I just pinch them off with my fingers.

If im not mistaken, cutting val leaves will kill cause the entire leaf to slowly die, but the plant reacts by shooting up new leaves as the old ones die. I always cut a few leaves off near the base and let it grow in new leaves before i cut the rest of the long ones. I could be wrong though...

......well it has never seem to have affected mine. Infact I have had to do that to all of my several times. A couple of weeks later I have to do it again to all of them after every trimming.
