Help: any ideas type of plant
I purchased this plant and it was labled as a "compacta" it is creen with redish/purple leaves. Doing internet searchs i can find nothing that looks like this using the name "compacta" andy ideas on what it could be?

"Common" names are often added at the whim of the supplier or the store and usually mean nothing. From the photos I would suggest this is Ludwigia, probably L. palustris X L. repens from the colour which seems to have a hint of red. A clearer photo might help confirm.

I'm taking Christel Kasselmann's nomenclature, Hiscock gives this as L. repens. Kasselmann notes that L. repens has several variant forms, but her photos clearly do not agree with Hiscock's L. repens. Another synonym for the latter is L. natans.

Looks more like a Hygrophila polysperma to me... (As with the ludwigea, Hygros have variations within species... )

A clearer picture may help...
If you can't provide one, maybe you can choose from these..

the Hygrophila polysperma looks exactly like the larger one they had for sale! its looking like they possibly just sold a young one and labled it as a compacta? but i think you solved the mystery redchigh, so this is indeed a aquatic plant!?

I'm actually beginning to think Byron may have been right...

No matter really, they are both stem plants and both aquatic. :P
They take nutrients through the water column so you might want to get some flourish comprehensive. :)

Well, I could easily think Hygrophila too...but I need a clearer picture. I was trying to go by the leaf veining and colour previously.
