Growing Algae

Hi,

I would like to grow more algae. Yes, more, really!

I have the most adorable hillstream loaches and need to make sure I have lots of yummy algae for them. I do feed them some pellets and zucchini too, but need to keep a healthy crop of alge to be sure.

Right now, I have a bunch of brush algae on my driftwood and my glass has nothing, thanks to the laoches. I'm concerned if I add nutrients and/or lights, the brush algae may just go nuts, and they don't eat that.

Is there anything I can do to encourage grazing algae without encouraging other algaes?

If not, I'm think of setting up a algae growing tank in a window in the cellar. Would I need fish, or would water, light and nutrients do it?

Thanks!

take a glass jar, put a few rocks in it with some fish food and sit it on your window sill.........Algae should start to form on the rocks in a few days.......put the rocks on your tank for your loaches and repeat the process for a continual snack for them........this will stop you from having to add nutrients to your tank and you can control the amount that would grow in your tank
