Floating Plants

I think I'll opt for Java Moss if possible because it says in the profile that it can be floating, however if they don't have that I'll definitely go for some Java Fern and stick it on my fake rock...!

Better yet, if they have both I'll get both.

Is it correct that Java Moss can float and still grow and stay alive?

Not sure on that mate, I haven't heard of anyone floating Java Moss. People tend to just have it either in a bunch somewhere in the tank for fry to grow in etc or they just attach it to something. If it says it can be floated then I guess it can. Not sure how pretty it would be though.. your better off getting a nice big chunk of Java Fern and attaching that so it grows near the surface, but I'll warn you now..... it'll get algae on it. the furry kind too, I have no end on mine where its not covered by the floating plants...

Full circle, what you need is something floating! pennywort is another plant you can float. See what the LFS has tomorrow and go from there. if you get Java Moss, just attach that to something...itll look nicer...trust me

If you go for anything like Cabomba or anything in the "wort" family, check the plants very thoroughly for pond snails (aka ghetto snails... LOL). They're a nuisance and have so many nooks and crannies in those plants to hide in.

EDIT: Btw, I've read that Dwarf Baby Tears can also be floated, and they stay in clumps. They're expensive, though.

I'm well aware of the snail situation. When I bought my first plants for my tank I had a massive snail problem! They were eating the plants and it was so annoying.

Are there any methods for getting rid of these snails before placing them in my tank?

I just go through the leaves carefully and pick them off. I think some of my fish eat the ghetto snails, so that has helped a lot too.

Damn, so went to the LFS but I can conclude their plant selection is useless! They had no floating plants and they didn't have Java Fern or Java Moss either. They had a few nice plants, but they don't achieve the objective which is to make the top half of my tank look interesting because it's still really bare! On th bright side I go some more water conditioner!

They have lots of fake plants but that's not what I'm looking for, I prefer the natural look (my only flaw with that is that my substrate is really bright, should've researched first huh).

I recently purchased some Water Sprite from my LPS. My last experience with floating plants was a disaster so I was reluctant to try again, but the Water Sprite is perfect for me i havent seen it get pushed down by the flow of the filter at all. So needless to say I am going back tomorrow to purchase some more, Water Sprite is my floating plant of choice.

I might see if they can order some for me, but I think it would be awkward. I seem to be pushing my look just getting one to help me out, not the best service but I'm trying to make the best of a bad situation...

If I can recall, Water Sprite is the easy one isn't it?

I would say it is. When I found it at my LPS it was planted in the tank, I had also had it planted until I remembered seeing it in the floating plant section of the profiles. Since then it has been floating and Has grown a bit also.
