Egeria densa suddenly dies.

All the Brazillian elodea is suddenly dieing. The growing tips yellow and die and the rot spreads it's way down. The plants hae been in the 10 gallon tank for the entire approximatively year long life. they have been growing well and have taken off with the addition of tetra pride fertilizer which is mostly iron.

Flora: healthy Java Moss and fern, bannana plant, and healthy watersprite

Fauna: glowlight tetras, wild Guppy(endler Guppy hybrid), bladder and MTS, copeodods, planaria, and hydra in the gravel.

light came with the kit, the other plants are doing fine including the elodea until now.

the elodea was never divided, i just let it send roots down into the gravel and let it send shoots up.

are you adding excel?

ive found that Anacharis is a bit sensitive to excel. I had a bunch of this in my tank then one decided to start adding excel to the tank and then the tips of the Anacharis turned white and rotted away..

When a plant that has been fine suddenly decimates, it is usually something environmental; sometimes most of the plant species do the same, sometimes only one. A change in any one of the light (existing tubes may be losing their intensity; or changing a tube), pH, hardness, temperature; various nutrients available/not available; another new (to the tank) plant species added. I mention this so you can consider if any of these may be applicable.

Can you please give me some suggestions, are there any plant deficiencies or diseases which match the symptoms?

Unfortunately any of the issues I previously mentioned can cause a plant to "suddenly" demise. I have experienced most of them, the symptoms to me look the same so I generally go through what I've changed, age of the tubes, etc., and eliminate issues until I find the likely one.

Can you tell me the light, be specific; I assume fluorescent tube (?), so what make, watts, and kelvin [this should all be on one end of the tube itself]. Has this tube been the only one for the entire year? Is Tetra FloraPride the only fert?

This is the first light in the tank and was been in use ever since it was bought. It is simply labeled "19 watts."
Around the same time, a fist sized clump of Java Moss was added.there might be issues of light blocking. Eneryting else is the same. Tetraflora pride is the only fertilizer and after it was added the brazillian elodea produced luxurious green growth. I think it is mostly form the light deteriorating, but there are none of the typical symptoms that are associated. in fact it looks light a plant grown under high light.

If it is past a year, time to change the tube. I would get a daylight, with a kelvin around 6500K. If you don't mind the expense, Life-Glo or Life-Glo 2 are excellent. ZooMed's Ultra Sun is almost identical. For even less money, a Phillips or Sylvannia tube with a kelvin of 6500K will work; Phillips calls them Alto Daylight Deluxe, not sure of Sylvannia's trade name. The K is the clue. These come from hardware stores for a few dollars; measure the tube minus the prongs and that is what you want in a T8.
