Duckweed in freshwater aquariums

I know this has probably been hashed before: I have done a search and get too many hits. One through google would not load.
So, what are folks thoughts on this plant in aquariums? I have seen some posts where they love it/hate it. Gets into filters. Dies. Takes over. Denies other plants nitrates: if this is the case, sounds like it would do well to lower nitrates in problem nitrate tanks.

As for the filters, would it be possible to tie a finer bag over the inlet? Or would that be too likely to clog.

The only problem I've ever had with Duckweed is that it can multiply too quickly. If you don't mind netting out the excess occasionally, it serves its purpose well. If you have Goldfish, it is like candy to them and they will happily consume all the Duckweed you can throw their way.

no Goldfish. nawww, I don't mind netting it out.
however, one tank I'll probably need a pre-filter on the small water pump I have in there.
