How well did they do for you? What kind of setup were they in? I am looking at redoing my 29 gallon tank and what to try growing some more light demanding plants. This isn't my final list of plants that I am going to get. I am probably going to drop some and add some different ones later on but was just wondering about these and your experience with them?

I have the Ludwigia natans and the dwarf lily in my 29g and they are both doing really well. I have 1 65w compact fluorescent bulb and I fertilize with flourish comprehensive.

The dwarf lilys Ive had for a few weeks and they are now taking off. I just planted the bulb halfway into the substrate. Really cool plant and I cant wait til it gets more leaves!

I have, or have had, some of these. And yes, you are getting into higher light with some. Red leaf plants generally need more light. And of course this means more nutrients including CO2 to balance. All Hygrophila are higher light, except for the new cyultivar someone posted about a few weeks back that is unique among hygros.

Thanks Byron. I am planning on getting brighter lights. I am also going to get a Co2 system for that tank. I found a paintball system that is in my price range. I would like to grow some colorful plants in this tank. I am going to look at some different plants today and see if there is anything different I want to change on the list of plants I would like to try.

Thanks Jbrofish. Those are definitely brighter lights then I have now. Do you like them? I also really like pics that I have seen of the dwarf lily. Think it is a really cool plant. Most aquarium shops around me have a very poor selection of plants. So I usually just order them online.

My tank sometimes gets a small outbreak of string algae..other than that I love it.

The lilys I have have maybe 4 leaves right now..they're small. But they look great already! I did have to order them online though since my lfs also doesn't have a large selection.

Echinodorus "St Elmo's Fire" Nice plant, does well in low light, but needs higher light and micros for reds to pop.
Ludwigia Natans (Ludwigia repens) Easy plant, the reds come out better with micronutrient dosing.
Hemianthus Callitrichoides Tricky plant... DSM is best if you want to go low-light.
Alernatherea Reineckii Var. Roseafolia If you want low-light without CO2, then don't even try this one.
Cryptocoryne Blassii Nice plant, interesting colors, but gets huge.
Echinodorus Red Flame See St. Elmo.

Hygrophila corymbosa Works well in medium light.. Not really a bid fan of this one.
Echinodorus ‘Kleiner Prinz’ See St. Elmo.. Does remain quite small- nice for 10G's.
Ludwigia Glandulosa (Ludwigia Peruensis) Difficult plant, needs high light and CO2.
Echinodorus Indian Red See St. Elmo.
Fontinalis Antipyretica (Willow Moss) Nice moss, grows slowly though. Be on lookout for algae.
Nymphaea Stellata (Dwarf Lily) I love this plant- I have them in a tub pond outside.
Pennywort Great stem plant. Pretty hard to kill. Best left floating IMO.

Thank you Redchigh, thats the kinda information I was looking for with these plants. Still not sure what plants I will actually try. I still have awhile before I will be re doing my 29 gallon tank. So have plenty of time to decide. I am going for a high lighted tank with co2. So those plants should work out okay then, I am also thinking of dosing EI ferts in this tank. So the Micronutrients should be there for them.

I know about pennyworts:

Water pennyworts are very common. They have long creeping stems that often form dense mats. Water pennyworts occur in and near ponds, lakes, rivers, and marshes. There are seven species and varieties of Hydrocotyle in Florida (Wunderlin, 2003). Water pennyworts can be found throughout the U.S., Canada, and in PR (Kartesz, 1999).
A profusion of leaves and stems is characteristic of water pennyworts. The stems can grow to many feet long. Circular leaves typically are about the size of a half-dollar, but can be much larger or smaller. The leaves are shiny and leathery. The margins have blunted teeth. Long leaf stalks attach at the leaf centers, umbrella-like. Water pennywort flowers form delicate white or greenish umbels.
