A group of
Carnegiella myersi, the smallest of the hatchetfishes, and quite rare. They are very delicate, sensitive to everything, and need very soft acidic water. These were imported from Peru last week, and are in remarkably good shape, considering. I've had them previously, in fact I have one left of the group of six that I acquired 3 years ago. Two of those jumped out overnight (they can find the smallest opening, and both times it was due to my having left the front glass pane open about an inch from when I fed them), and 3 just kicked the bucket. Now I have 8 to join the lone survivor who is currently in the 70g with his cousins
Carnegiella marthae. Next water change I'll move him over to the 33g with the new arrivals.
I had expected to come home with more fish, but two species that were expected didn't arrive; and the
Nannostomus rubrocaudatus, also very rare, came down with ich and are in quarantine. I thought it prudent to leave them; these fish are also sensitive, and I've had Nannostomus all die from an ich treatment--so given the very high price, I'd rather they died in the store QT than in my QT. If they make it, I'll probably pick up half a dozen.
