As for the rational that just because kids swallow them they are aquarium doesn't make sense. They can and do harm children. The only reason legos haven't been recalled is I haven't heard of a death from them, yet. Children also swallow pennies which can be toxic in the aquarium.
I would venture that lego plastic is pretty much the same type of manufacturing that is used in making aquarium ornaments. The best thing about Legos is they they rerely fade and they don't have any paint that might wear off unlike our standard ornaments. The bad things about them is the sharp edges and very sharp points that could be harmful to the fish and other critters.
The application is one of choice from what I see. I actually think they can be used safely and very well in certain applications and might be a way to get that special form that otherwise would require a lot of cutting, gluing and pasting to get it. I probably wouldn't use them but other than the chance they might physically harm the inhabitants I have not found anyhting online to why not to use them. | ok i was just saying that to give an example, maybe it wasnt good. But if a kid swallows a penny isnt that garunteed problems (coins have a ton of germs on them, think back on how many people have touched this one coin, maybe my mom should let me leave them in my pocket when there in the wash...)
