Aquascaping 3.5 gallon

Today I'm going to the LFS and getting some plants for my 3.5 gallon tank with a betta. It has really low lighting, two marimo moss balls (one is smaller then the other) and plenty of Duckweed PLUS A TERRA COTA POT. What kind of plants should I get. I know one of them with be PCS but what else could I get?

Make sure your Duckweed doesn't get so out of control, that it blocks all the little light you have. Java Moss and Anubias does well in low light.

When you say low lighting, do you mean no light over the tank, or is there an overhead light of some sort? I ask because a more substantial floating plant would be ideal, something like Water Sprite (click the shaded name for the profile with photos) which is natural to the habitat of Betta, in place of Duckweed which is fine for the shade aspect but it doesn't have the depth to allow the fish to browse around the leaves and roots dangling into the water.

I mean there is no light on the tank. My LFS had none of the plants I wanted and petcetra sucks really bad. They couldn't even tell me what type of plants they had. They said they were ''assorted and the type doesn't matter''. Ironicaly that person looked like the lady that made me climb a stepladder when I was 8 to get a hamster.

Anyhoo, when I got the Duckweed, a mystery plant tagged along. I've let in stay floating and its a lot more green, but I have 0 idea what it is. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow.

I wonder if you are talking about the same plants we are? It sounds like you're talking about a store such as Petco or Petsmart. I've never seen them carry Duckweed. When you buy floating plants, it would be very difficult for them to sell you that, and have another plant "tag" along. A picture would be good. However, you won't be able to grow anything with "no light", so that will be a problem no matter what type of plant you have.

Its a Mr Pets, I dont think they have petcos in Canada.
It does get light though, from the window and the tank beside it, I put one on and he got really stressed out.

I asked how much the Duckweed was and they said free. Took the net and just scooped it out. She said to just pick the other plant bits out.

It was a bit weird, but oh well. I go the Duckweed. That lady is very nice, but can be a bit odd.
