Anubias as a floating plant?

I am ready to give up the fight. I have tied my Anubias on several different items in my tanks. Ideally I wanted to have the Anubias on the ugly plastic log I have in there to sort of hide the fakeness of it. I tied it directly onto the log and yet, it keeps floating up. I tried tying it again and this time also put a piece of driftwood on it to hold it for awhile hoping it would grab hold and stay put. NOPE! I then thought, alright, won't work on plastic so I tied it to driftwood, next day... floating again. I tied it again, then it was flipped over on the bottom in a plant. I removed it and tried yet again. This morning they are floating on top. I am certain I have a smart alec fish in there that is having a good laugh but... what can I do?

Can Anubias thrive just floating around the tank? I should think it would be to much light for it at the top of the tank. I am about ready to throw them out.

I eventually managed to tie my Anubias to a piece of driftwood about this time last year with a crazy amount of cotton thread.. not dared cut the thread yet because it's still not really attached itself, but eventually the thread pretty much blends in with the wood. :)

I think it would be too much light for that plant, floating. Why don't you just plant it?

I have an Anubias floating in my tank and it's actually doing really well. The roots are huge and not much algae grows on it at all and if it does the Otos take care of it. It's also a fairly low light tank though. I don't remember the name if it possibly coffeefolia or whatever that one is. I'll post some pictures later tonight.

I might end up having to do that but I didn't want to. I purposely got it so that I could put it on the ugly log. I was under the understanding that it WOULD hook to the plastic log, but it doesn't seem to want to. I wonder how long it takes to grab hold?

Here are the pictures. Quality isn't so great because I used my phone. You can see the roots wrapping all the way behind the driftwood though. I'd say they're over a foot long and only growing.





How do you tie the Anubias to the wood? When I tie them I use green thread and atleast 3 pieces to tie it in multiple places. Usually two over the rhizome and atleast 1 on any extra roots depending on how long they are.

I just took black thread and wrapped it around the plant and the wood several times. Apparently not enough as the fish were able to undo it.

You know those twist ties that come on bread and other things. You can use that. Rubber band works. Unflavored wax coated floss works.

I think the problem is you only used one thread. Once it comes untied it's only a matter of time until it unravels and the plant floats. Try using multiple threads that way you have some back up.

+1. tie the life out of it with like 3 feet of string. I use multiple rubber bands on the tanks without severums.
