The piece of wood hasn't moved... my idea was to put the left end back in the left rear corner of the tank and have the wood extending out into the tank in a bit of a diagonal.

That is what I tried to do but it can't really been done that well in a tank that size. (the bottom one is the original) it doesn't really matter anyway cause in a week or two I will be doing a total design on the tank. Speaking of which do you think I should get another piece of driftwood

Is that one solid piece? I'm not understanding why you can't just rotate it clockwise (looking down from above) so the left side is in the rear corner. If I was any good at graphics I would do a diagram, but I am not.

It is hard to tell from the picture but the front end is actually touching the glass there and the back end is all the way in the back corner. I physically can't rotate it anymore!

It's your tank so I can only suggest things. But even with lots more plants, that large a piece of wood will make the tank seem smaller than it actually is, visually. I know because i had a similar issue in my 20g with a largish piece of artificial root. But 2 or 3 chunks of wood that are smaller will make the tank seem larger by opening it up. It's the same as furniture in a small room; a large sofa makes the room feel small, but 3 armchairs without the sofa open up the space.
