Puffer tank..

I throttled it down a little bit also my Spray bar has like 10 holes in it. I have to redo it though as I got the holes wrong and the current doesn't flow the way I want it to. From what I have read and was told the puffers do just fine with current and my filter will be fine on the tank. Was also told its best to have 10x gph flow rate for the size of the tank these lil guys are in. Now how true this is I am not sure but if that's the case I have always had too little filtration on this tank till now.

huh... weird. I thought you said that you had trouble with them when you first started - and had to baffle the filter in a HOB cuz' it was too strong for 'em? Maybe I'm remembering wrong. . .

THe fact that these guys are one inch fish really boggles my mind. . . I HAVE a 3g tank. But that's too small for ANYTHING, right? I KNOW I can keep the thing stable and cycled. One inch?!!! C'mon, dude - tell me like 398 times that 3g is too small for anything living. Cuz' I'm SO super tempted to try it right now. They're just so darn CUUUUTE!!! I bet I'd love one just as much as I do my rams (shhh, don't tell!) Also? While you're at it, remind me 593 times that I really don't WANT to set up another tank! But. . . I could put it on my desk! I already have it cycled, filtered, bubblered, heated. . .I could snail it up in record time, and it'd fit so perfectly right there ---> ONE SINGLE LITTLE ONE INCH FISH!!!? *swoons from the cuteness* PLEASE CAN I HAVE ONE NOW!!!!!?

LoL yes I think its past your bed time!!!!! I personnally would NOT put a Dwarf Puffer in anything less then 5 gallons. Yes there are small fish at just an inch but their are seriously messsy fish!!!! They are pooping machines espically when the temperature of the water is 80. Also they need space to explore as they are really curious fish and get can get bored easily. Then they start to tank surf. LoL

Yes I did baffle the HOB when i had one on the tank. Though I don't remember why now I think it was for the floating plants cause it didn't slow the flow of the filter just redirected it.

Heehee, I don't think I would have, anyway. . . just because I always feel bad to have fish in small tanks. Even 5g. . . though if I got one for a 10, I'd just have to get 3, lol! 'sokay - I'm not ready for Puffers yet, or another tank, for that matter! I've got quite enough to deal with right now, *maybe* in the summer when I get the kindy fish settled into my house where they belong. Maybe! For now I'm perfectly happy to watch you manage yours, and learn from your experience!

You could always keep the 3 gallon going for the snails you are going to need for the puffers

I have my betta with my snails that I breed for my puffers. And then I feed bloodworms, though they do eat snails as the main part of their diet. As an answer to the question about them puffing they only puff when stressed and it is stressful in itself to puff... so yes they do puff I have seen them puff before once in the stores. It's quite scary to watch them do it. I keep my puffers with shrimp and oto cats. But yes it is quite easy to fall in love with the little buggers no matter how messy they are <3 They are absolutely adorable and have so much personality. ^^

I have never seen mine puff up which is a good thing! I knew with other species of puffers it was a matter of stress and figure it would be the sane with these guys. I just haven't seen it nor heard if anyone who had or talked about it. Do your puffers eat your shrimp??

Surprisingly not XD I expected them too, especially my tiny babies but I think its cause I get the puffers pretty young and raise them with the shrimp, therefore they never learn to eat the shrimp. Plus since they get most of their hunting out on the snails they don't really desire to hunt the shrimp, in my opinion, either that or I just have really weird puffers XD which is always a possibility

Puffers are best kept in species only tanks. Though some ppl keep Oto catfishes with them.
