If snails are scared, they will stay in their shells. Glad you have already moved them into a safer tank!
You can still try the food, might help encourage them to come out of their shells.
Dead snails, will start falling out of their shells. They will not have that closed trap door look. It also does not take long for them to smell. Not much, that smells worse than a dead snail. Do the sniff test, if it smells nasty, it is dead.

They were moving all over before they got picked on. Both of them had moved last night, on was up on a plant the other was on its back, not sure if the Beta moved it or it fell of a plant. But them to like the 5 gallon better, but now I have to get rid of some of the other fish in the tank. Theres just to many now

my snail falls off things all the time....it shouldnt hurt him......sorry to hear you have to rehome some of your fish....but you need to do whats right by the rest of them

Probably not. My guess is that the snail fell from somewhere.
