Peacock Eel Refuses To Dig O.o!

Hi all I recently switched from a gravel substrate to sand and now my Peacock Eel refuses to burrow like he has done every since I got him (4 years ago). I switched to the sand substrate because after a lot of time spent surfing numerous fish forums, it seems to be the general consensus that this is the best substrate for my eel and the 2 rather large Senegal Bichirs I have... Any ideas as to why "Petey" won't dig now??? Thanks in advance

Also, one of my Bichirs now has a transparent bubble covering his left eye. Is this a cause for concern? Is there a treatment for this or will it go away on its own?

What kind of sand did you get ? How deep ? The profiles say he should like it. How long ago did you make the change ?
Sorry, don't know what the bubble on the eye is. Possibly a natural healing stage meant to protect an abrasion.

Hi Fish Monger, I got play sand (from Home Depot), it's about an inch deep, and I made the switch 2 days ago (so VERY recently lol). I was thinking the same thing was possible about the bubble, like maybe some sand got in his eye? (I did leave my fish in while I made the switch...)

Might be just a matter of getting used to the new surroundings. Did you have the same depth when you had gravel in the tank ?

Approximately the same dept yes. A few people have told me that he might just have to get used to it so I suppose that might be so. Thanks :)

my eel is strong he is able to burrow into heavy gravel. I do have a very thick, 3-4inc thick layer of substrate, with a layer of sand under the gravel.
