What is the scientific name of this species of bichir? I've never heard that name before. What species are these cichlids?

The mottled bichir, Polypterus weeksii, is an West African species whose habitat is much different than that of East African Rift Lake cichlids. The water conditions are totally different, as is the biotope. I think I would hedge away from mixing the two.

I wouldn't mix bichirs with most cichlids in the first place. Bichirs are mellow and wouldn't do well with a territorial fish like a convict or texas.

weeksii are awesome bichirs with beautiful patterns and IMO if you can get a hold of some I would remove the cichlids and build it around the bichirs. I do know of a few good sources of bichirs if your decided to go that route.
