Hi, thankyou for replying to my post.

Yeah i do use a grayish white substrate, could this be why? If so, why does it cause this?

not sure why but fish tend to darken or lighten according to their surroundings including substrate to blend in although not all fish do this but there are some.

I mean..that could be why..but My fire eel was in a tank with very white-ish fine gravel and he was a very dark colour, very solid clean bright colours..ate normally, everything was fine..

I mean, every fish of a certian species is different

oh... i think it must be this then, as he eats fine, i know this because i hand feed him everyday... and its both my fire eels look the same... so must be the reason...

Could my Crayfish be similar then? He used to be a potent bright blue, and now just a faded blue...

yup it's the same reason... which is why aro's are given white tank treatment.
