Fire Eel

Sooo...my local fish store finally got 3 FIRE EELS in..(they called) as I asked them to call me when they got some in when my previous guy passed..I haven't been actively looking anymore because I just wasn't sure if that's what I wanted.

They normally charge $69.99 canadian plus tax for a 10" specimen....but they only got ones in that are 5" so half the price..

I'm willing to pay it, but does that seem normal?lol...just curious
Going to check them out in about 10 minutes, and if they look in decent conidition I'll pick one up(because I'm a sucker and i genuinly loved my first fire eel..)

Nooo when I got there they had 3, one was already pre-paid for so that left 2..not that they designated a specific one as"purchased"..

However, they were all very thin, their bodies were very dis-proportionate to their heads and I knew they were very stressed out to begin with. They were also VERY small..around 4 inchs max I think..

They wanted 40 dollars, which I think I mentioned earlier, which to me,wasn't the issue..I was very dissapointed:( ..*Sigh*

They do seem to have a tank full of BGK however I purchased my little guy about 3 months ago and he's doing fantastically well.

I've read to much about having two together and not risking it, nor do I want to stick a tiny BGK in a larger tank to "maybe" survive and not get eaten..*Sighs*..

I do love my BGK:)haha

I was looking at that eel I questioned earlier, rubber?..I realize due to the poster's response and some research(which has been very difficult) that I may ask them if that's a possibility to get in at some point..they do seem facinating and different.

well after the research you have more info then me.bgk are lovely fishes.hope what you have planned turned out well.do you have pics of the tank and purchase? it's lucky you din't get those eels looks like they are sickly from what you described.

Yeah I have to take the time to take pictures,, as mentioend early I STINK at taking them and I hardly have time to do weekly water changes and vacumes..I still ahve to deal with the sand thing and then I'll take pictures:)..eee!

My BGK is wonderful!!!..haha

but yeah, I'm assuming because the LFS hardly gets fire eels in, the people who purchased them weren't educated on them, as I know what they should llook like from owning one and researching..and they didn't look well AT ALL..but, people tend to just purchase..lol..well the majority and the ones who don't..as we all know, ACTUALLY know what they're buying.

The only reason I told the LFS to call me if they got some in was because of my previosu fire eel, and the fact that I'm not going to shove him in a 10 gallon tank.

Regardless, no hard feelings as I know this is a commonality in the fish world.

=) no rush with the picture taking.i bet the eels will do better at your home in stead of the lfs.people buy on impulse.i do that sometimes but if something goes wrong i get an excuse to go buy a new tank lol

haha ooo my other half considers it not so lucky haha..with 3 moderately large sized fish tanks and 4 dogs..lol.
