I have two black ghost knife fish and was looking into breeding them. I found one site that said you could sex them by the way their stripe fades near the tail. Well, I just went over to my aquarium to try, and noticed they don't have a stripe! Neither one has a stripe going along their backs. They have one on their heads, and two white bands on their tails, but they don't have a stripe on their backs. Is this just because they're young or what? Come to think of it, I think some of the pics of BGKs in wholesaler tanks shows BGKs with no stripe on their back, but I don't think this is the same thing. Is this normal?
Ok. I just took some pictures. But now I see they're too big. I'll have to resize them, but I can't on this computer. It may take me a couple of hours to be able to post them.
Not because I don't know how to resize (I'm not that stupid), but someone else is on the other computer.
The big fish is a little less than 7 inches and the little one is a little more than 4 inches.
Here they are. I know the first one looks like a brown ghost knife, but it is black, I accidentally had the flash on and with the aquarium light it made the fish look brown. The flash scared it back behind the plants and I had to nudge him forward to get a good picture. You can see, in the last picture, him rushing back to his hiding place (backwards)
G'day Freddy,
my BGK does have the line that goes along his back.
You have to wait as this does come along with time and the fish's age.
Cheers,
