Hey guys still fairly new here was just wondering if anyone would mind posting some of their setups for their Bichir's? To help me out with changing my set up around. I currently have to hollow logs for hides and black sand with some misc. fake plants in a 20gal. until my 55g cycles thats what im keeping him in. thanks :P

I wish I did. My old setup was just some large rocks that were placed to form caves of sorts and some drift wood. It gave my bichirs places to chill but plenty of swimming room too. They were pretty active. It was a 75g tank. I don't think I had plants but I'm sure they would appreciate them. Something tough and hardy like some Java Fern would work well.

My bichirs seem to chill in....

the expansive amazon sword I have and floating wisteria. They are pretty active but when they are at rest it's the plants they go to over the caves available.

We made a nice cave out of pvc piping and siliconing gravel and rocks to it to give it a more natural look. He takes his food and runs in there.

That sounds nice and cozy. I'm sure they (or it) will be just peachy.

I'll have to take some pictures or video of my current tank for you. I will say this though. Make sure when you put hide holes in like logs that there is one per bichir. Sometimes when they are small they don't always mind sharing but as they get bigger they start to want their own territory.

Also ensure that a log if hollow on both sides does not butt up against the edge of a tank. Otherwise it can lead to your fish getting stuck or not using it due to no access to the other side.

Well since I can't edit my post: 50 Gallon Bichir and Sarasa Tank (half a year in now) - YouTube

That's my current set up. Sparse I know but they are pretty happy. I spaced both hide areas on the sides of the tank to prevent fighting between the two bichirs. Every once in a while they get close and look like they are going to nip (as you see in the video) but then they just go their separate ways.
