Question would gouramis be a good fit?

i have a 29 gal tank with two swordtails, 5 (at the moment) tiger barbs, and a pleco. i'm planning on getting more barbs, but i would like to get some gouramis too. is there any reason this would be a bad idea?

Yes, very bad. Gourami are quiet sedate fish with long fins. Barbs, especially Tiger Barb, are notorious fin nippers and would likely decimate the gourami. The swordtails may fall victim at some point.

In a 29g with Tiger Barb, in my view there is no space for anything else except some substrate fish that TB tend to leave alone. Increasing the group to 8 or more will also hlep to spread out their natural aggression. You can read more in our profile, click the shaded name.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
