I'm thinking about eventually getting a single Honey Gourami. However, I'm concerned about the territorial tendencies I've heard about with males and their bubble nests. Has anyone with a male Honey Gourami as the only Honey in the tank seen him build a bubble nest and be territorial towards the other fish about it, or about a certain area of the tank even without a nest?

If he won't be territorial without other Honeys present, I would like a male since they are more colorful. But I would rather get a female rather than have any area in the tank where all the fish couldn't swim, since right now I don't have any territorial fish in the tank.

Honey's are one of the least agressive of the gouramis, I've had single males building bubble nests, but this does not occur very often, I found that if you move the envionment about every couple of weeks they don't get very territorial, or even the honey's favorite cave, just move it along the tank if he gets a bit bad tempered, keep him with fish the same size or a bit larger and he will back down when a confrontation happens.
Why not buy a female, when a bubble nest shows up if you dont want fry just net the nest when it shows up and discard it, this way the gourami's will not bother the other fish. the fish will soon forget the nest has gone.
