No info in profiles about the Opaline. Just wondering if it is fine to keep one as a single, with no other Gourami, in a 23 gal tank, well planted?

Know I didn't spell that right :p

I have always heard that they are social and do better in small 1m,2f groups, but IDK for sure about keeping 1 gourami alone. Hopefully a gourami expert can answer that.

Hey Gwen,
The Opaline is just a color variation of the Blue Gourami, and is the same species. Yes, I think a single one would be fine, actually probably a very good option if not kept in a M/F pair. They get around 5-6 inches, and minimum tank suggestion is 36 inches...still havent got that down to know off hand the tank size with that, but I wanna say that's a 40 gallon suggestion.
Hope this helped.

Thanks Amanda! I thought I read somewhere that Gouramis live in solitude, except for spawning, so I was hoping it would be okay. I do have a 43 gal, which I just put my dwarf neon rainbows it (they are enjoying it, so cute). And the Gourami I bought is in what is now my QT tank, and that is 23 gal, but I'm kinda thinking I'll leave him in that, and my other tank will be just rainbows, but I guess I could always move him when he gets big.

The Gourami is a pretty fish. It seems like I read that Gouramis tend to pick on each other, and I did want to avoid that. I'm sure it's because they are males, and I read how to tell the difference, but I don't want to trust being wrong on telling the difference between rounded and more pointed dorsal fin.
