I'm pretty sure female gouramis are very pale, a browny-silver colour with not much else. Also, males have pointed dorsals and female rounded, from what I've been told. So I'd say yours is a male. Again, this is just what I've been told in the past
coming from a pet store employee I would have to agree with male on this one. It is definitely a dwarf gourami..a true blue gourami looks different. It almost looks like a powdered blue dwarf gourami but it has some orange striping of a regular dwarf gourami. Nevertheless, the majority of dwarf gouramis sold in stores are males because frankly, they are a lot prettier than the females
im pretty sure thats a blue dwarf because of the reddish iris and even blue coloration and i pretty sure its male because females are usualy a silver gray color
Looks just like one ofmy two dwarf cobalt gouramis which i'm assuming is just another name for the blue dwarf / powder blue dwarf etc)
I have one that looks just like that one, and one that is a bit smaller than the other and doesn't have the red tinge to the fins or the red stripes. Still quite blue though. Do i have a male and a female?
P.S sorry to barge in with my questions on your thread Frenzy, but i've been wondering for ages what sex mine are, but can't get a decent photo! Nice to find a decent photographer with identical fish! Seriously, they could be twins, even down to the faint red stripes.
Lovely fish ain't they, mine are really friendly and playful.
There are several strains of dwarf gouramis. Males are quite colorful whereas females are rather plain. You don't see females often as people tend to demand more on the males owing to their bright coloration.
Again, the picture posted by the OP is strictly a male.
