Sexing a dwarf gourami

I have a dwarf gourami, and I'm having trouble sexing it. He has faint stripes like a male, but he is not as spectacularly colored as the other males I have seen.

Any photos?

Most dwarfs are male, as they are often pumped with hormones to make them male because the colours are more attractive. Females tend to be quite drab in colour.

Ok, I just looked at it, and it's stripes are prominent now. Can they color change? Earlier, the stripes were barely visible, and now they are quite bright.

I would think that as there mood changes, so do there colors. Happy/Excited=Bright Colors, Scared/Threatened=Blunt Colors.

Ok, I've solved the problem: 3 days ago I added the dwarf gourami and a tiger barb, and I planned on adding more barbs if these lived so that their would be a school and they would act right, and the lone barb was bullying him. I went and bought four more tonught, and the gourami is bright and happy now :D
