new tank help
Can a rainbow shark and an opaline gourami live in the same tank?
No mention is made of the tank size, and the Rainbow Shark, Epalzeorhynchos frenatus, requires space, a 4-foot tank is minimum. It is best not combined with sedate fish like gourami.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]

From my experience with the similar red-tailed shark, it depends on tank size and fish size. You will obviously be better off with a larger tank. If the gourami is the same size or larger as the shark, again from my experience it will USUALLY(of course, there can be exceptions) defend itself with minimal harm done to any fish.
