How to tell gender of Gold Gourami?

I am just wondering, is there any way of telling the gender of a Gold Gourami? I have one and I am trying to name it, at the moment just 'Star'. Yes, I like to name my fish.

My understanding of Gourami's is that the male has a more pointed upper fin (dorsal) than the female. You sometimes need to see two of the opposite sex side by side, to determine the difference, as it can be a bit slight. You can check that out at a petstore, and than go home and see if yours looks more like a male or female. If you take a picture, someone would likely be able to tell you on this forum. I'm betting it's a girl. By reading your other post, your tank is small for a Gourami, unless it's a dwarf, but I believe the Gold Gourami gets to be 5 inches in length.

LOL..Gwen beat me too it and I was going to say the same thing about the Dorsal fin.

I was just looking at the fish you have in your signature Mauve and I know it isn't on the topic at hand sorry, and I haven't kept Angelfish, but I have had a gold gourami and he became very aggressive/territorial as he matured. I was just thinking that you may end up with potential problems having 2 territorial species (Angelfish & Gouramis) of fish in the same small tank, plus from what I have read, Angelfish may end up eating the smaller fish such as the neon's if the opportunity is there. It might be something to be aware of.

I'm also thinking that the size tank you have may not be sufficient to house fish that get quite large like the Angelfish & Gold Gourami in the long term, unless you are planning on upgrading in the near future.

Beaches is right. I didn't even catch that you had an Angelfish. You will likely have problems and will either need to upgrade or re-home your fish.
