how many females?

I have 3 male Gouramis, It would be fine if I only get 3 females?, I've read they must be keeping in sexed pairs.

Hi Censzar; You do not say what type of Gouramis you have? As with any fish it is usually better to have more Females than males. That way the ladies do not get chased to death and the males will not fight as much. Also I have seen single male Gouramis that live long and happy lives too.

I agree with Tankfull. It's almost always better to have more females than males. With some species, once a pair bond has been established, one male to one female is best. With gouramis, I have noticed that there is always a pecking order and it usually works from biggest to smallest on down the line. If your males are getting along and you're not interested in breeding, you might just leave things as they are. Otherwise, I'd do at least 2 females for every male.

I got 3 Dwarf Gouramis (redfire) since 1 month ago, and most of the time they're doing well, but sometimes, they are chased by the Tiger Barbs or the Yoyo Loachs; these last two have less time on the tank.









so I started think in a new tank, may be 15 or 20 gal, for them, then if they are going to be in a tank just for them I could add some females too. If I let them alone in a new tank, I mean with no females, don't you think they could become agressive between themselves?

Tiger barbs are jerks sometimes. How many do you have in the tank ? Your photos are beautiful. Whatever you decide with the gouramis, make sure there is plenty of cover for them to hide. Floating plants are best and they help with water quality also.

Thanks, I have 5 Tiger Barbs, together with the 6 Zebra Danios they are the younger and smaller 1 to 1 1/4". Besides there are 4 Black Mollies, 5 Silver Mollies, 3 Yoyo Loaches and 1 CAE. The Gouramies attains the 3"

Hmmm, those tiger barbs might start to harass other fish. If i was to have tigers i would make sure that there are no less then 8. but if your tank is happy, just leave it.

I thought the same at the beginning, in the first week, after the Barbs arrived at home, despite the smaller size they was chasing and annoying the Gouramis more frecuently, however, now this isn't so frecuent like before.
Anyway I'd like to keep the Gouramis on their own tank, and to keep the Barbs like the main specie on the 55; I guess I could add two or three more female Barbs.
Now I think about; the only ones who chase the Barbs are the Yoyo Loaches, actually the Barbs don't likes to mess with them. LOL!
