Honey Gouramis and Dwarf Gouramis

I have a female Honey Gourami i just got it today, and i want to try to breed her. I was wondering if she would be able to breed with a Dwarf Gourami, or if she is able to breed with any other gouramis.

Also if it is possible is it as easy if they were both the same type of gourami and if i shoulld get another female. And do females and males make the buble nest or just males, or females.

By the way i already have in this 29 gallon tank pretty well planted, 2 guppies, 2 platties, algae eater, 4 tetras, and 8 Guppy babies, they will soon be big enough to sell so i may only keep 1 or 2.

Males make the bubble nest and then squeeze the eggs out of the female to put them in the nest. Honey Gourami are a different species then Dwarf Gourami so no they will not breed

Many species of gourami will try to mate with different species of gourami. One user here has a male dwarf that is always trying to mate with her female Blue Gourami. But they won't produce viable offspring. A 'species' is different from 'breed' in that species are genetically and/or reproductively distinct. You can mate any breed of Goldfish with a different breed of Goldfish and you will still get a Goldfish. But you can't breed a Goldfish and a barb as they are different species.

You could try to mate two different species of gourami, but it won't work. If you want to breed your Honey Gourami, you need a male Honey Gourami.

Agree, and I would suggest you get a male and another female. Although the Honey Gourami is fairly peaceful for gourami, the male may be "pushy" and with only one female she will be the focus continually, whereas having two females allows each some rest (hopefully). You have space in a 29g for a trio, just make sure it is one male and two females. Males are territorial.

Make sure there are floating plants. The best is Water Sprite, as it provides good support for the bubblenest. The shaded names can be clicked for the profile with photos and info.

Why do you want to interbreed them?
