Does anyone know is Honey Gouramis are jumpers? I'm having trouble regulating the temp in the tank with the incandescent bulbs and would like to leave the hood open through the day.
While all fish can jump I don't believe they are particularly well known for jumping. You may want to consider getting a screen top to eliminate the possibility of jumping while still allowing you leave the hood up.
well the best thing to do is to get rid of the lighting system and get a flourecent light. Otherwise you are gonna have problems with heat, jumping, lots of things. As blue said floating plants will help but it wont mean they still wont jump. Also just to add this, gouramis should have floating plants for there bubble nest
I will be looking at screening and lighting on Monday. I will see if I can find some cheesecloth to rig temporarily. We don't have anything more than a grocery store, a pharmacy and a small historic downtown so I have to wait until I can go to town.
Are there florescent bulbs out there for my hood? I saw a compact flourescent bulb somewhere online but it said that one bulb's output is the equivalent to 50 watts of incandescent.
My hood is one of those cheaper ones that you have to use 2 of those small bulbs, one on one half and one on the other.
flourecents work differently from incandecents. They give out much less heat so 50 watts more than incandecent, but 50 times cooler. They also save much more energy
