Are Honey Gourami (Trichogaster chuna) social?

I'm trying to decide whether I should keep a Honey Gourami alone or in a group. In the past I just kept a lone female Honey Gourami, but now I'm doing more research and hearing that more people are keeping them in groups. I wouldn't want to risk aggression with a male with breeding (either guarding the eggs from my community fish or toward the female), but I am considering getting multiple females if they like company.

Would multiple females do better together than a lone female? What interactions and aggression have you seen between your females? Do they pick out territories through the tank and guard those from each other, or do they seek out each other's company? Have you ever had any harm done to females by other females when keeping them in groups? Any other observations you've seen with yours would be great.

I have keep Gourami in groups and alone I think they like groups better based on how they act in the tank. I have never had them try to spawn in a tank so that could change things but so far never been a issue.
