Gourami Size

I recently got a Blue Gourami. What's the usual maximum size do they reach in an aquarium? Internet sources say they get to about 5 inches but I want to hear about first hand experience instead. I actually wanted to get the Pearl Gourami but when I asked how big they'd get the store keeper pointed to a foot long semi flat fish and it scared the heck out of me.

Also how long does it take for them to get to their maximum size? Thanks guys!

I had a Blue Gourami that got close to 6". My Pearls are a bit smaller... the male is about 4-4-1/2" and the female is a bit smaller. I don't know what the shop keeper was on but Pearls do not get a foot long! LOL

really? now i feel sad coz i really wanted that Pearl Gourami.

not that Mr. Blue "Hey Buddy! Move Over" Gourami isn't nice to have.

if you don't mind me asking... how long have you had yours?

Pearls are my favorite gourami. The female I've had for 2 years and the male for a little less than that...about 1-1/2 years. I don't have my Blue Gourami anymore but I had him for about 6 years.

fryup: i know! it was the owner's daughter so i kinda believed her. i could've gotten pearls instead. they keep a classy place inside a mall too and they don't have sick or dead fish so i kinda thought she knew what she was saying.

jeaninel: wow they live really long. and yeah i agree about pearls too. i like how the streak runs straight thru their eyes as well.

unfortunately my slots are already filled up. if i want to add pearls i'll have to put up some fish for adoption.
