I'm talking about the fish maturing to the point of it being able to be sexed....
If the fish is too small to sex and the rounded fin changes into a pointy fin, then you obviously have a male. The whole premise of a fish being too small to sex is that the sexual dimorphic characteristics have not developed yet.

But I doubt the fish is too small to sex.

A picture is worth a thousand words, which we may have reached here.

125 - BGK, chanchito cichlid, pictus cats, silver dollars, palmas bichir
125 - cichlids (severums, bolivian rams, chocolate), rainbows ( turquoise, red), loaches (angelicus, zebra, kuhli and horseface), plecos (BN, RL and clown), denison barbs, tiretrack eel, pearl gouramis, betta
90 - Congo tetras, african knife, upside down cats, spotted ctenopoma, kribensis, delhezzi bichir
2.5 - betta

You know what though, those pictures aren't very good and I can't a picture of his fin fanned out. It actually looks like it's starting to square off a little so I think it's a young male...

At what size does it become more obvious? 3 inches long total length?
