A few gourami questions...

I finally have room for a bigger tank! Yay! So I've been thinking about what fish to add when I get it.

Right now I have two honey gourami and I absolutely love them! It's been a lot of fun to watch how colourful they've become since coming to my happy home.

Do these gourami do better in groups, or would they bother each other? The two I have right now seem to get on very well and appreciate each other's company. They're both males though, so no breeding going on :(

What's the likelihood of me being able to sex gourami in the pet store? I know they have great different colours in the aquarium, but they're all so pale at the store! I've also read that the male's fins are much more pointed, but I'm not sure how obvious it is. Any suggestions?

Also, will the female feel harassed if I only get one, or should I have a higher female-male ratio?

Thanks a bunch!

More often than not, females are not found at your lfs. Females tend to be very drab and do not sell well. You may get lucky and your lfs may get one in accidently. Let them know you are looking and they can keep a watch for the wayward female for you.

When introducing a female to a group of males, take care. The males may begin sparring to establish the alpha. They may also hasrrass the female to death, literally, if she is not ready to breed.

*ouch* good to know, I'd heard that about other gourami, but was under the impression that honey's were a lot less aggressive. I'll definitely try to pick up more than one female, and make sure I have a tank to separate them in if the females are getting stressed.
