Female Gourami's

I have a 29g community with just a few guppies and one male dwarf flame gourami. I was wondering where you could find any female gourami's? I've tried chain stores and local mom and pop shops, but I am unable to find any females. I did find one female on aquabid but it was international and being sold as a pair. Has anyone else had this kind of trouble finding a common fish?

Hey, I used to live in Glendale, AZ! Seems like someone in Phoenix would get those in for you. All I know about Gourami's is, be careful with putting them together. It often does not work out, and the male will likely harass the female, and may even kill her, if he does not find her as a suitable mate. The dwarfs may be less aggressive, but that has been my experience with them (and others here, from what I hear).

I've actually found female opalines at my local Pet Supermarket. I bought a few of em because they were out of males. I found them (golds) as aggressive toward each other. My female gold gouramis were far more aggressive to one another than the male dwarfs and male honey sunset gouramis I've kept together.

Anyhow, that was the only time I came across female gouramis and they were opaline in both gold and blue.

You don't often find female Dwarf Gourami because they are much more drab than their male counterparts. Most people don't want them, so it's not cost effective for stores to sell them. I have seen females being sold at a few sites around the internet. Just keep looking.
