Default Elusive female Scarlet Badis (dario)

For all of those despairing of the apparent lack of available females of DARIO DARIO, I offer the following shot of my successfully breeding pair ( the female is on the left). When I first set these guys up in a separate breeding set-up, she looked like she was supposed to according to the literature ( washed-out & pinkish) but a couple of days ago I looked in the tank & saw two apparent males . My first reaction was disgust but that rapidly changed to something else when I saw the tiny babies Perhaps those interested in breeding dario should take another look @ the available stock. A number of fishes have 'sneaker males' wherein they assume a female color pattern & demeanor. Perhaps the reverse is true for dario for whatever reason.

Probably not exactly what you had in mind but here is a newly-hatched dario:

Exactly what I had in mind. I couldn't really make out any fry in the first posted pic. Thanks.

The fry hang out @ the surface while the parents like the lower half of the tank so it's difficult to get a 'family portrait'. Here is another shot of fry about a week older:

BTW, I keep live moina in the tank @ all times which keeps everyone well fed.
