I got my very first Gourami today, its neon blue :) however, I saw these gorgeous dwarf honey gourami that were still pretty young and I was wondering if I would be able to put the two in the same tank? I've heard not all gourami's get along together so thought I would ask first :D

Thanks :)

Dwarf gourami's are community fish, though if you combine males there can be some territory issues so just have a big enough tank and lots of places to hide or establish territory. But combining dwarfs are fine usually its the regular gourami's you have to worry about

The minimum size requirement for one is 5 gallons I think >> though ten gallons is best for two ^^ So I assume you could get two as long as they are male and female or they are two females, they should be happy in 12 gallons and they like being paired up they swim together as a pair usually

PS You're welcome ^^ I love to be helpful

I was hoping to get another male, I find they are more colourful and exciting than the females. I didn't know that the males couldn't be kept together, when you go to the pet stores you see dozens of them all in the same tank;which is also a small tank

Ya but there are lots of females to balance it out usually and it will result in less fin nipping or chasing if you get a female, though it does make sense that the male is more exciting because they are made to be more attractive.

Ahhhh that does make sense :) I've fallen in love with these little guys, their my second obsession; betta's being my first :p I'd love another neon blue too, he's not as bright as I imagined him to be though I was putting it down to stress but I'm not so sure anymore lol

Are you thinking it's a female because if so you can tell by the dorsal fin which is pointed rather than rounded on the females. If you're not thinking that then you might be feeding him the wrong thing. I know when I had my big gourami his colors and spots used to fade depending on what I fed him.

They are duller but there are always exceptions to the rule in my opinion you might just have a really pretty girl XD

That's a perfect excuse to me  always need an excuse to get more fish in my opinion

#14 ·
definitely male, see the end of the dorsal fin is slightly pointed, that indicates it's male ^^

Does he have light? >> I assume he does but it could be that's why he was less colorful because at night their spots fade as well or at least my big gourami's did

Edit: I meant colors

XD no as long as there is light he should be fine >> it just maybe his food or that's the way he's communicating I'm sure if they can do that, but puffer fish can

they tend to like blood worms more, I'm not sure if betta food is right for them, not sure how it is different than regular tropical fish food, but frozen blood worms are awesome and if you decide to try it soak it in some of the aquarium water first until it is loose otherwise it can make them constipated

Iv always wanted to try the frozen live foods but I still live at home and my mother refuses to let me put them in the freezer haha I have freeze dried that I have used a few times for my betta but after hearing bad reviews about them, I haven't used them since. I'll keep trying him with the fish food that all my fish are on in that tank and if there is no progress I think I'll look for a different food for him lol .

Ugh I totally understand the mother thing, although my mom lets me put my stuff in the freezer though she won't let me go salt water :-( it make me sad. But yeah try things that are out of the norm, ummm what else is there >> there is always pellet food for tropical fish if he doesn't end up eating the regular fish food, so you can always try a few betta pellets with him and if he eats them then go buy the tropical fish pellets. Try soaking the flakes in the aquarium water for a few seconds until they are soft they just might be too strange for him. Most fish stores feed them soaked flakes.

XD I understand that feeling hmmm what kind are they?

Ah good ^^ how big are they?
