Dwarf Gourami Health

Upon doing further research about my Dwarf Gouramis I found another forum that really had nothing good to say about their health, but every other site I have visited says they are hardy fish. Can anybody elaborate on this? Also It did seem like most of the people complaining were from the UK. Could it be a problem isolated to their stocks? Thanks for your insight.

Dwarf gouramis are not as hardy as they used to be before. I've noticed the significant drop in their health and quality especially in my lfs. My lfs has them and I always see them moving in seemingly frail condition. I bought some before and yes, while they are supposed to be hardy, these ones did not make it for long.

In Asia, a lot of these gouramis are mass produced and females are often induced with hormones to become males. You do not expect to see any female dwarf gouramis here anymore. Their demand is far rather low compared to the males because they do not have the elegance the males have. I'm very disappointed by these results but what can we do? To the breeders, it's business as usual and males often have very high demands hence the hormones induced even on the females.

I'm not surprised why people would even think the female dwarf gourami is just as colorful as the males and instead use the anal and dorsal fin shape. The truth is that they do not realize that there is very limited stock of female dwarf gouramis and these ones when compared to the males are rather silvery in color, a big contrast to the elegance of the males.

I'm ready for the pressure.
The drama and the pleasure!
If there is one thing I want to see here, it's HUMOR.
I believe I can fly!
I believe I can touch the sky!
I think about it every night and day!
I stand in awe of my body.
