there's surprisingly little info on wanting to maintain an algae culture (any kind of algae)

i have flagfish that love hair algae, now i feel like a farmer to have enough growing to supply the fish without giving them too much it runs out.

greenwater in a bucket is surprisingly easy (it's simply not crashing)
greenwater in tank is ... frustratingly difficult
-and it's the same stuff (adds to the frustration)

i found a lot of information on the net about cultures to be fairly consistent, but always expecting things to crash, like they just don't know why
i found information on getting rid of algae to be really inconsistent

the stable bucket of greenwater i have, ... i'm not really removing nutrients, so whatever the balance is inside, i don't know why it's working, ... just accidentally it is working (what i added was a bunch of dried & crushed plant trimmings from the tank)

lots of concerned voices about getting rid of algae (all various types)
not much is said about trying to culture/farm it though :(

going out on a limb here, ... how do you test water parameters for a bucket of greenwater as the water starts out green ? wouldn't that throw off liquid tests ?
